Green Business Certification

LifeCity offers a simple business assessment to determine your green business certification level. As a part of our assessment, we’ll ensure we find you the resources you need to become more green- and help you save money while getting there.

Beyond Certification

One of the largest challenges a business faces in going green is finding resources. LifeCity is developing a software platform that will offer you free tools that connect you to the specific needs of your business – without any consultation. What We Are Doing

LifeCity is a membership-based organization that supports the development of green or “impact” businesses in New Orleans, while educating consumers about green products and services. We also certify zero-waste events. It’s a win-win situation: consumers receive discounts to green products and services through our membership card, and certified LifeCity businesses receive greater visibility and support of LifeCity members. Together, we help keep Louisiana beautiful – now and later.

How We Are Doing It

Simple. We find businesses that aim to be green and we certify them through an easy but thorough process including an online and in-house assessment. We then determine a discount to offer LifeCity members and begin promoting the business to the community. Over time, our growing network will evolve to innovate new connections, relationships, and solutions that are most needed for a sustainable future.

Why We Believe In It

While interest in living green is high, in practice, consumers question how businesses are truly green and companies struggle to find affordable green resources – leaving many of our best available solutions unnoticed.

LifeCity seeks to take the gray out of green, by providing clear, engaging, and accurate information through our social media platform and individual consulting. By combining economic, social, and educational incentives to support green solutions in our community, we believe New Orleans and Louisiana will be on its way to becoming a leader of sustainability in the 21st Century.

The Mission of LifeCity is to provide information access and community coordination to empower individuals, organizations, and government agencies to make decisions that more equitably meet basic human needs today, while preserving the ability to meet these needs for future generations.

Our Team

Chief Sustainability Officer

Elizabeth Shephard is trained as an energy rater, water policy analyst, LEED Green Associate, and sustainability coordinator. After graduating with honors and distinction at Carleton College, Elizabeth was hired by her university to become the school’s Sustainability Coordinator, where she also built connections to the city of New Orleans. Originally from the Gulf Coast, Elizabeth moved to Louisiana to teach Earth Science and has been working in the environmental non-profit field for nearly 3 years. Daughter of two independent business owners and as a previous steering committee member of Social Entrepreneurs for New Orleans, Elizabeth is passionate about making business sustainable. She serves on the Green Collaborative Steering Committee, the Keep New Orleans Beautiful Committee, and is a Lay Leader and Chair of the Caring for Creation Committee at Rayne Memorial Methodist Church.

Creative Director

Blake Haney is a well-established entrepreneur in New Orleans. Blake has 10 years experience as a creative director, designer and business owner. He directs Canary’s creative and manages all projects from web development to branding to marketing campaigns. Blake’s expertise is in user interface design, project management and building communities around brands and ideas. He plans all future initiates with Canary’s curated brands and serves as the chief client liaison. His experiences have garnered him exposure in local and national news including CNN and the New York Times.

Natural Awakening Magazine’s editorial focus is on local health and sustainable living. The magazine is distributed free to approximately 700 sites, including City Hall in New Orleans, and reaches 65,000 residents throughout Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Charles, St. John and St. Bernard.
