How is LifeCity’s certification different than other existing certifications?

Ratings for each sector will examine food, energy, water, and material use of business purchasing, business operation, and use of products and services, emphasizing the importance of life cycle analysis. In addition to examining environmental impact, LifeCity will also examine company commitment to sustainability (through policy and other investments) as well as the company’s social responsibility concerning suppliers, customers, staff, and the community at large. Social indicators include education, equity, health, and systems design.

A similar process is available for organizations or institutions interested in producing LifeCity Certified Green Events.

The Green Games’ metrics will include a checklist of options that are rated on a point system (the greater the environmental impact, the greater the point rating). This checklist will be the basis for personalized goal setting and a basic improvement plan for each business.

At end of the contest, April of 2012, Natural Awakenings Magazine and LifeCity will hold an awards dinner – the Green Natties – which will honor and reward the most successful and most improved companies participating in the contest.
